Dr. Martin DeAngelis, DVM, ACVS

Dr. DeAngelis received both his Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine and Doctor of Veterinary Science from the University of Illinois. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He served as Chief of Surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City and has lectured in The United States, Canada and Europe. He is well-known for his orthopedic surgical strategies, having been published in numerous veterinary journals and textbooks. He received the Legend Award from The American College Of Veterinary Surgeons in 2006 for his publication "A Lateral Retinacular Technique for the Surgical Correction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture in the Dog," JAVMA 1970 Jul 1; 157(1):79-84. This original paper was the basis for the current widely used extracapsular surgical technique in the repair of cranial cruciate ligament ruptures. There have been modifications and refinements of the technique, which have been the basis of many publications since 1970. The Legend Award is given in recognition of surgical procedures that have proven their value by becoming the treatment of choice for a specific condition and has only been awarded once before in the long history of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Hundreds of thousands of animal owners and their beloved pets' lives have been made better because of this surgical technique, pioneered 36 years ago. Dr. DeAngelis specialized in orthopedic surgery, cancer related surgery, laser surgery, neurosurgery and soft-tissue surgery.
