Surgical Services

At Village Animal Clinic we provide a full range of surgical procedures, ranging from routine spays and neuters to complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. From admission to discharge your pet's safety and comfort are our number one priority.

Although anesthesia and surgery today are very safe, some risks still exist. We routinely perform pre-anesthetic blood work on all of our surgical patients to help to minimize this risk. This testing can identify many pre-existing conditions that may pose a significant health risk to your pet. These conditions include, heart, liver, and kidney problems or systemic diseases such as diabetes or cancer.

Testing may also determine if your pet has a clotting abnormality that could cause a problem during surgery. These tests will help ensure that your pet does not have additional risk factors that could complicate anesthesia and surgery. Based upon the laboratory results, we can adjust the anesthetic protocol if necessary or treat certain conditions prior to surgery to ensure that your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia.

Our clinic is outfitted with in house ultrasound equipment, and all ultrasounds are interpreted by a board certified specialist. We also have endoscopy and internal medicine services available by a board certified specialist as well as echocardiography and cardiology services available by a board certified cardiologist.

We utilize sophisticated monitoring and recovery equipment to ensure your pet's safety during all of our surgical procedures. This includes the use of intravenous catheters, I.V. fluid administration before during and after surgery, using infusion pumps for optimum accuracy, the use of pulse oximetry equipment to constantly monitor your pet's vital signs during surgery, a heated surgical table and the use of thermal warming units post-op to maintain your pet's body temperature. We also incorporate pain management into all of our surgical procedures to ensure your pet's comfort.
